Maria's is the best source we've found for Indian spices, produce and other grocery products. Make sure you visit Maria's on a Friday if you want to buy fresh vegetables or fruits.  They only get the fresh stuff on Fridays, and by Saturday morning most of it is gone.  Best place to buy fresh mangoes, and the price is good.  This grocery is in a little strip mall close to the Walmart on 8th St in West Des Moines.

For Mediterranean:

Nagi's has a great selection of Middle Eastern groceries, including some that are certified Halal or Kosher.  They are the only grocery I've found so far that carries goat meat.  Also carries leg of lamb and lamb shanks for soup stock.  Wide variety of packaged dry beans, including dry chick peas, which are hard to find.  And the homemade Lebanese baklava is to die for!  This grocery is located in a strip mall off of 42nd and University in mid-town Des Moines.

Graziano's is famous for their Italian sausage, but check out the homemade ravioli in the freezer case at the front of the store.  If you want authentic canned tomatoes from Italy, this is the place to go.  It's fun to check out all the pasta shapes, too.  And if you want the best Parmesan cheese, Reggiano, you can definitely find it here.
